Alex Borstein Hopes ‘Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ Season 5 “Changes TV Landscape Slightly”

Alex Borstein and Rachel Brosnahan aspire to make viewers laugh with the fifth and final season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. However, Borstein, who portrays Susie Myerson, also hopes that the Emmy-winning Prime Video series demonstrates that shows can feature multiple female leads.

Borstein tells The Hollywood Reporter that she hopes the show’s diverse female relationships leave a lasting impression and slightly change the TV landscape by proving that a series can have several well-developed female characters. She appreciates that the women in the show pursue dreams rather than chasing men, emphasizing the importance of their aspirations.

Brosnahan concurs, recalling a THR Comedy Actress Roundtable she attended and realizing she hardly knew the other actresses present because they seldom had the chance to work together due to limited opportunities for multiple female leads.

Brosnahan reminisces about the roundtable, which included Drew Barrymore, Alison Brie, Tracee Ellis Ross, Debra Messing, Molly Shannon, and Frankie Shaw, and expresses her hope to collaborate with these talented women onscreen someday. She notes that The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is among the few TV series that allow multiple women to take center stage.
